The charming Weardale Byre Cottage is situated in the picturesque village of Daddry Shield. Built in the 1850s, it was converted from a byre in the 1970s and boasts beautiful countryside views from every window. It is at the heart of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The cottage’s interior has seen constantly improvements – the latest being a wood burner and a 4K TV. Great care has been taken to retain and enhance its original features. Among these are the wood-beam ceiling, stone window seat and early 20th Century bathroom furniture. At the same time, modern touches have been introduced such as fibre broadband, a height-adjustable workstation and HD monitor.

A stay at the cottage is ideal for exploring the romantic English countryside, finding the perfect hike, and cycling along Weardale’s famous winding roads. The yellow Mineral Valleys Walk signs will lead you along countless trails crisscrossing Weardale’s hills and villages. The area is filled with valleys, moors, rivers, and breath-taking hilltop views.

Its location is also perfect for couples, families and friends who want a convenient base to explore nearby destinations such as the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, Northumberland National Park, and a whole host of historic towns and villages.

The area represents a unique part of English heritage. Book your stay with us to explore one of England’s best kept secrets.
